Ampersand Museum Series Claybord is made from 3mm high-density artist hardboard using Aspen wood fibres, with a smooth, absorbent kaolin clay ground and a handcrafted 13-ply birch plywood cradle. The archival, formaldehyde-free panel is protected by Ampersand’s Archival-Seal barrier to help prevent support-induced discolouration. It supports India ink, pigmented and alcohol inks, as well as egg tempera, acrylic, casein, watercolour, gouache, pencil, pen, airbrush, collage, photo transfers, printmaking, and mixed media.
Paint and ink can be applied with brushes, sponges, palette knives, paper towels, airbrushes, technical pens, and other painting tools. The clay surface allows colour to be removed, reapplied, scratched, sanded, or erased to adjust tonal values, create highlights, correct mistakes, and add fine details using sgraffito techniques. It also bonds with adhesives for mounting paper and fabric. Very thin glazes or washes may reveal faint circular sanding marks; for an exceptionally smooth surface, prepare the panel with very fine sandpaper or oil-free steel wool before use.
This is an 18 x 24in uncradled 3mm Ampersand Museum Series Claybord Panel.
