Use Ampersand tools for scratching unique textures on Claybord and Scratchbord. The Scratchbord Tool Kit comes with one each of the tools shown below, a piece of steel wool and a free piece of Claybord for experimentation. Tools are also available individually.
Ampersand Museum Series Scratchbord is a clay and India ink-coated hardboard panel for scratchboard artwork. Comparable to traditional paper scratchboard, except better – Ampersand Scratchbord is more durable and easier to scratch into for cleaner and crisper details and lines. For added dimension, coloured inks can be added to the white areas and then scratched again for additional highlights and volume. Artwork can be sprayed with spray fixative, allowing the finished scratchboard to be framed without glass.
Ampersand uses true high-density hardboard made from US-grown, renewable and FSC-certified Aspen wood fibres. Ampersand brand Hardbord is made without formaldehyde or harmful VOCs (volatile organic compounds), unlike other hardboards and MDF boards. Both their domestic and imported panels are made from FSC-certified forest products that promote sustainable forests.
