Cranfield’s Print Fix Clear Gel will help reduce the tack of your printmaking ink. Tack refers to the stickiness or adhesive quality of an ink. It is suitable for ‘pigment in oil’ based inks such as Cranfield’s Traditional and Safe Wash etching and relief inks. Other oil-based inks may be suitable; however, Cranfield recommends the printmaker conduct a small trial to assess the effectiveness before use.
Add 1-10% Print Fix Clear Gel to your ink and mix thoroughly. Once mixed continue your printing process as normal. If transfer to solid areas of colour is patchy, add more Print Fix Clear Gel. If paper tears or splits when removing the block/plate etc. add more Print Fix Gel. When printing multiple layers, add progressively more Print Fix Gel to each layer (if it doesn’t transfer well without it). Note: reducing the tack can also allow more movement in alignment, so take greater care when registering and printing to maintain sharp edges/lines.
