Holbein Artists' Gouache is made from finely ground pigments and delivers a consistent velvety matt finish. The pigments are selected for high-density saturation and the ability to mix freely without loss of brilliance, opacity, or hue value in combination with other colours. This opaque matt gouache is Japan’s foremost designers’ colour medium.
Silky smooth with a high pigment load, the gouache delivers a velvety matt finish using naturally opaque pigments. Holbein adds no opaquing agents to their gouache colours. The colours have excellent lightfastness and will not darken or muddy when mixed.
Holbein Artists’ Gouache is perfect for layering. The colours will offer absolute opacity when laid one over the other, and they won't crack or bleed. However, the matt surface will be fragile, so scratching and rubbing should be avoided. A fixative or matt varnish will enhance surface strength but may change the surface colour by increasing transparency.
It is also possible to mix Holbein Artists’ Gouache with Holbein watercolours, acrylic, or acrylic ink diluted for airbrush use.
