Our Extra Offset Crank knifes are a new range of palette and painting knives made from stainless steel with black wooden handles. Compared to our old range of Black Handled painting knives, these knives have longer shanks, a more flexible blade, and a larger ‘offset’. The offset is the angle between the flat of the blade and the handle. When the bottom of the blade is held flat on a table, the handle of a knife with a large offset will point higher in the air than a knife with a small offset. A reasonable offset is desirable in a painting knife because it stops the artist’s knuckles coming into contact with the wet surface of the canvas. The range also includes two palette knives which have long, straight blades which continue the line of the handle (i.e. with no offset at all). These are No. 7 (which has a blade like a butter knife) and No. 11 (which has a wide, sail-shaped blade).
This palette knife's blade measures 106mm in length, with a width of 14mm at its widest point. The handle measures 100mm in length with a diameter of 10mm.
