Tarlatan or scrim for wiping intaglio plates is an open weave cotton fabric stiffened with starch. Before use it needs to be 'broken-in' or loosened by pulling out or running a piece around a table leg and then formed into a wiping pad. You can buy it by the metre or in 50 metre rolls. The width of the tarlatan is 114 cm.
