Etching & Intaglio
Etching and engraving are intaglio printmaking techniques where images are carved into a surface, typically a metal plate, using sharp tools. In etching, the plate is coated with a resist, and then exposed to acid to create lines, while in engraving, the image is directly cut into the plate with a burin or other tools.
